NAC was first announced in 2015 by President Abdelfattah Elsisi as a project that would ease the population congestion in Cairo and provide a high-tech and efficient center of government for the country. Set to be inaugurated in 2022, the high-tech new capital will include more than 21 districts, featuring several landmarks that will put Egypt on the map as the ultimate investment destination in Africa.
The new global city will feature Egypt's biggest mosque, the Middle East's biggest cathedral, an opera house, and a stadium. NAC will constitute a transformation in urban living in Egypt in the 21st century.
The New Administrative Capital is being serviced by a comprehensive and entirely new road network that has majorly upgraded road standards in Egypt. From the renovated Suez Road to New Cairo's 90th Road and the developed Ring Road, the New Administrative Capital is easily accessible from across all of Cairo. But owning a car isn't the only way to get there; there will also be public transport taking pedestrians from the heart of Cairo straight to the New Capital - The Monorail. A first-of-its-kind development in Egypt, the monorail will run from Sheikh Zayed City right to the center of Cairo, and another link will take people from Cairo's downtown district to the New Capital, passing by major Cairo districts like Nasr City and New Cairo.
The first to arrive in NAC will be the Government of Egypt, with its government district at 98% completion. 60,000 government employees will populate the city and form the first building stone in its population.
It is also serviced by its own international airport, Capital International Airport, which opened in 2019, with a yearly capacity to accommodate one million passengers.
The New Administrative Capital is much more than a new city; it is set to completely uplift life in Egypt and ease congestion and traffic in Cairo. It comes complete with several facilities and projects that will be a major step forward for Egyptians.
